Birthday Celebration At AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort

birthday

It was a cold and wet Friday evening when hubby returned early from work and said he was taking me somewhere nice for my birthday. Despite pestering him so much, he still didn’t want to disclose where he was going to bring me to. He just told me to pack a day’s worth of clothes and off we hit the road. Throughout the journey, I was left guessing where was his secret place. I had no idea as he was just as secretive as the place was.

I only had an idea when he turned right into the town of Sepang and Sungai Pelek. A left turn would have led us to Port Dickson. Now, you know why it was so difficult for me to guess. Anyway, it was then that hubby conceded his secret place was indeed AVANI Sepang Goldcoast Resort. The clouds were hovering low in the skies as it drizzled almost throughout the journey.

Upon reaching the resort, we parked the car at the designated carpark (100m away) and walked toward the reception hall. This resort has the appearance of a palm tree from an aerial view and the entire complex kind of ‘floats’ atop the sea on concrete stilts. We were given a room in the middle of the “palm tree trunk”. It was roughly a 200m walk from the reception hall and we were ferried to our room on the buggy as the rain was getting heavier too. Hmm..should I reveal the price? Well, since this is a travel blog, I suppose it’s only fair if I do. Hubby got the superior room at a discounted price via Amoma for RM534.52 inclusive of taxes. This is the first time I hear of this website, but hubby claims it offers the best price if compared to the other more popular websites, especially when you do last minute booking.

The room was on the whole awesome, although I think a certain bit of its maintenance wasn’t up to the required standard.  As usual, I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the story-telling…

That evening, hubby had arranged for us to have a romantic dinner at Perahu, one of the 6 restaurants within the resort, which served mouth-watering western dishes. Service was top-notch, partly also because there weren’t many customers then, I reckon. The highlight of the dinner was definitely its ambience, having our candlelight dinner on a deck by the sea while enjoying the beautiful sunset and sea breeze. We could’ve enjoyed even more if not for the weather. Nevertheless, it was surely an evening to be remembered!

After dinner, we spent some time at the reception hall that was beautifully festooned with a brightly lit Christmas tree and ornaments that befit the imminent yuletide season.

The next morning, breakfast was provided for at Bila-Bila, which is located at the club house (“fruit” of palm tree). Food counters were aplenty and needless to say, we were spoilt for choice. The club house also consists of an infinity pool, a spa and Hai Sang Lou chinese restaurant.

There are various activities you can indulge in when spending time at this resort, namely Putrajaya/KL tour, mangrove river cruise, extreme park, water sports, yoga, etc. But all these come at a price you’ve to be prepared to pay. If you’re adventurous, you might want to consider walking out of the resort to the Bagan Lalang beach just adjacent to it. Having said that, I must confess that it wasn’t among the best beaches I’ve ever come across. I mean, you can’t really expect much from a beach along the Straits of Malacca. Oh before it slipped my mind, there’s also a food court along the beach just in case you thought of spending less on meals.

All in all, I’m so grateful to hubby for planning this wonderful birthday surprise for me. I love you so very much, hubby!
