Unwinding At Lexis Suites Penang

Just came back from Penang yesterday! In fact, we’ve been to Penang many times and almost all of which coincided with hubby’s conferences that were usually held around the Georgetown or Batu Ferringhi area. However, this is the first time hubby’s conference is held in Teluk Kumbar, away from the busier locations on the island. We stayed at the Lexis Suites Penang, the newest addition to the Lexis Hotel Group, which also manages 3 other hotels in Port Dickson – Grand Lexis, Lexis Hibiscus and Lexis. Among them, we’ve only stayed at the Grand Lexis about 2 years ago.

Lexis Suites Penang is nestled along the pristine beach of Teluk Kumbar, overlooking the Straits of Malacca. Teluk Kumbar is a small Malay fishing village, situated between Balik Pulau and Bayan Lepas at the southern part of the island. As such, it is only a 10-minute drive from the Penang International Airport and also easily accessible through the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (2nd Penang Bridge) if you drive up from Kuala Lumpur.

We flew in from Kuala Lumpur on Saturday morning and took Uber to the hotel. This time around, our plan was just to relax at the hotel and enjoy its facilities rather than move around like we used to. To get to Georgetown (centre of activities) would take us about 45 minutes, which wasn’t worth the time and money.

Hubby’s sponsoring company granted us a night’s stay in the premium pool suite on the 21st floor. A quick check at its website revealed that the premium pool suite is priced at RM599 per night and the executive pool suite is priced at RM 499 per night, inclusive of taxes. As we entered the hotel, its unassuming lobby didn’t really provide us a sense of luxury and elegance. On top of that, the elevators and corridor leading to the room convinced us even more that this hotel was nothing more than a service apartment. However, our perception instantly changed as soon as we stepped into the room. The pictures will do the rest of the story-telling…

There aren’t many eateries or shall I say Chinese eateries in Teluk Kumbar, within walking distance from the hotel. Fortunately, there is a seafood restaurant (Restoran Teluk Kumbar Seafood) just adjacent to the hotel, which we wouldn’t have noticed if we had not looked out of the room’s balcony. How serendipitous! Dinner at the restaurant was cheap but just average in taste, perhaps we didn’t know the right dishes to order. An awesome place to chill out after dinner would be none other than Lexis’ Sky Lite Bar on the 25th floor. Perched on the hotel’s topmost point, you will get a spectacular view of the Straits of Malacca.
