Mango Cottage by Hui Lau Shan (許留山)

Mango Cottage

During my trip to Hong Kong in 2011, I came across a dessert shop by the name of Hui Lau Shan (許留山), where there was a lot of customers queuing up. And I, being curious of what it was all about,  joined in the crowd without even knowing what I was queuing up for (the menu was completely in Chinese). Luckily, there was an Indian lady who queued in front of me and I thought I’d be able to find out more about this shop from her. To my surprise, she too had no idea what the shop was selling. She added that one would never go wrong in food selection particularly in a place which drew the crowd. So, I joined the hype and placed my order by randomly pointing at the menu, which fortunately had pictures. My curiosity definitely paid off as its mango dessert was superbly delicious.

Upon returning from that trip, I did a bit of research on Hui Lau Shan only to discover that it is a chain of shops specialising in desserts and it’s known for its prominent use of mango in its menu. Ever since, I’d been longing for mango dessert but I couldn’t find something similar to the one in Hong Kong. Then one day, I came across Hui Lau Shan at Midvalley Megamall and tried its mango dessert, which was simply awesome. But, it isn’t very convenient to go there every time, just to satisfy my craving. Recently, I passed by a new shop in Sri Petaling, known as Mango Cottage by Hui Lau Shan.

After a sumptuous dinner, hubby, me and my cousin headed straight to the shop to try out its signature mango desserts (many varieties). Besides desserts, it also offers a lot of other items on its menu. The place is uniquely designed in such a way that you’ll feel very cosy inside it. It has a simple yet elegant decor, fitted with beautiful lightings.

The moment you are ushered to your table, the friendly staff will hand you the menu with pictures of various desserts and other items, as well as the order chit for you to place your orders.

While waiting for your desserts to be served, you can kill time by enjoying its free WiFi or even entertain yourself with some of its board games. Its concept is perfect, in that you can spend quality time with your friends or loved ones while enjoying its delicious mango desserts.

It didn’t take too long for our food to be served. I’m totally awed by its amount of emphasis on food presentation. Each of them was beautifully decorated and of a reasonable portion. I was spoilt with choices as every item was just so tempting. I couldn’t make up my mind until I saw an entirely different method of eating potato wedges and deep-fried chicken fingers. Instead of the usual cheese, mayonnaise or chilli/tomato ketchup, it has 3 choices of homemade Mango Cottage sauces (mango salsa, signature mango sauce & spicy citron sauce).

Needless to say, I had to try them out. Who would have known that the wedges and chicken fingers could have been so appetising when dipped with the mango sauce or mango salsa? This was indeed a great discovery for me.

In order to quench our thirst, we ordered the highly recommended Mango Coconut Ribbon. Each bite of sweet mangoes along with the coconut ribbons was so soothing to the tongue, that we were left silently enjoying that moment and just focusing on the dessert.

If you are a small eater, but would like to savour several types of mango desserts, I’d recommend the Mango Cottage Feast. It comprises small servings of Mango Chewy Ball, Mango Coconut Ribbon & Mango Crisp. It’s definitely worth having for such a reasonable price.

Another good thing about this cafe is that it pays for its customers’ parking tickets. How cool is that? You can spend long hours in the cafe without worrying about parking. All you need to do is to hand the staff your parking ticket and they’ll validate it for you.

For its opening special, Mango Cottage offers great discounts and promotions to its customers. Just “LIKE” or “FOLLOW” it in Facebook or Instagram and enjoy a 10% discount off the total bill. Not only that, from now till July 31st, 2016, all dine-in customers also enjoy RM5 off, where it’s applicable for 1 redemption per transaction. Besides, during its BONUS HOUR (every Thursday from 4-6pm), FREE Mango Heaven will be given away. However, this offer is only valid from June 2nd, 2016 till July 28th, 2016 and limited to 50 bowls every Thursday.
