Soon Fatt Seafood Restaurant

Soon Fatt seafood restaurant

Even though there are times I’d love to fulfill my responsibility in preparing sumptuous meals for my hubby, my body’s somehow too exhausted after a long tiring day at work. Hence, we’ll resort to eating out. Both hubby and I will try to avoid eating out as much as we can, but if we have to eat out, the quality of the food and of course its price are two strong determinants as to where we should eat.

When it comes to food, I’ll ensure that the food I eat is worth for the money paid for. If not, I’ll surely blacklist that restaurant or food and will never ever again pay them a second visit. Well, you may call me a picky eater, but hey, isn’t that why we live to eat?  Wink

Fast food is definitely not something we prefer when we dine out and we’ll usually opt for a decent meal. Tonight, instead of having just noodles, we chose to have proper dishes at Soon Fatt Seafood Restaurant.

My first dining experience at this restaurant was back in 2006 and every since, I’ve frequented it many times and even introduced it to my family and friends. Despite the years, the food still tastes superb and its price remains reasonable, except that now they’ve started charging the 6% GST (can’t blame them for that, right?)

Usually, the restaurant is packed with people and you may need to wait a while for your food to be served. Surprisingly, today the restaurant was quite vacant and we were happy as we didn’t have to wait long for our food. The only downside of this restaurant is that, there are no proper menu for you to browse through. Just like most Chinese restaurants, all you need to do is to ask for its in-house specialties and the waiters or waitresses will be more than willing to introduce a couple of dishes to you. There are several in-house specialties that you should never miss, namely the pineapple pork ribs, fish curry with tau fu pok and long beans; as well as the butter prawns.

However, after a heavy downpour in this evening, I was craving for ginger wine soup and the first thing on my mind was none other than the ginger wine steamed clams aka “lala“.

Just by the look of the lala, I’d already started drooling non-stop. The juicy and succulent lala served with ginger wine soup was without a doubt the most perfect combination. However, hubby said that the size of the lala weren’t as big as the ones that are available at Lala Chong Seafood Restaurant. But hey, beggars can’t be choosers right? For the price of only RM18, we had a very delicious dish and on top of that, there were so many lala in it, so much so, that we became so tired of separating the meat from the shells at the end of the meal (definitely not complaining).

Another dish that we ordered was hubby’s favourite bean curd (tofu). This time round, instead of the usual claypot bean curd or the minced pork bean curd, we opted for something different, which was the stir-fried silky gourd with bean curd. Silky gourd  (勝瓜) is a vegetable that contains various antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and nutrients. Not many restaurants will serve this vegetable but my mom used to cook it for me nearly every week.

The bean curd was silky smooth and each bite felt as if I was eating soy custard aka “tau fu fa“. The gravy had just the perfect texture, not too watery and not too starchy as well. Definitely, another recommended dish whenever you drop by to this restaurant. No doubt, hubby was very pleased with this dish, so much so that he commented numerous times on how much he loved the bean curd and the silky gourd.

By the look of the dishes, this meal could definitely feed for another mouth. Despite how tired we were, we were pleased that our day ended with a sumptuous dinner. By the way, initially the restaurant charged us only RM1 for the ginger wine steamed clams. Both hubby and I were quite puzzled by how cheap it was. We suspected something was amiss, and hence, we decided to approach the cashier to confirm our suspicion. True enough, we were undercharged by mistake and we paid the balance of it. We could’ve just quietly walked off but as children of God, we wanted to maintain a clear conscience.  At least, we could have a good night’s rest knowing that He’s proud of what we did.

Oh, another downside of this restaurant is the lack of air-conditioners and at times it may be so hot despite dining alfresco. Parking spaces are limited as well, but if you do not mind walking, that shouldn’t be any issue at all.
